The modern SPA VILLA beauty and wellness resort lies in the idyllic Eichsfeld region of Thuringia and offers perfect peace and relaxation for wellness enthusiasts. Whether in the spacious sauna area, during a soothing massage or in the fragrant Cleopatra bath — relaxation is writ large at the SPA VILLA. The old half-timbered house from 1899 was completely renovated and has been open to guests since 2012.
Four treatment rooms, two rooms for couples’ treatments, a sauna, steam bath, infrared cabin, two quiet areas and a Swiss pine bed are spread across three floors. Overnight guests have four stylish, modern spa suites at their disposal, each with its own whirlpool and balcony.
Requirement
In hardly any other field are the demands on sound solutions as extensive as in hotels and hospitality: balanced, natural background music in the reception area, the restaurant or the wellness rooms is decisive for whether guests feel at ease. At the SPA VILLA beauty and wellness resort a flexible multi-zone system was required, able to send material selectively to the speaker lines in the various functional areas. Ceiling speakers were to blend as unobtrusively as possible into the existing architecture and ensure high-quality music throughout the building. Particular attention was paid to simple, user-friendly operation, so that changing staff and guests can use the system too. Divided into eight individually programmable zones, the system now fills guest suites, spa areas and treatment rooms with gentle sound and atmospheric music, independently of one another.

Solution
For this purpose owner Ingo Schmerbauch relied on a combination of discreet EDL-82HQ hi-fi ceiling speakers and PA-1850D class-D amplifiers with 8 x 50 W each. The flush-mount speakers have a 20 cm woofer (8″) with waveguide and a 25 mm silk dome (1″) and a flush-fitting metal protective grille. For even more discreet integration, some of the EDL-82HQ grilles were painted to match the ceiling. In the wet rooms, EDL-158 ceiling speakers are used in addition. Withstanding temperatures up to 100 °C makes them ideal for sauna areas and wet rooms. To cover the guest suites in the attic as well, EDL-430/WS globe speakers with perfect all-round dispersion were installed beneath the exposed half-timbered vaulting. An 8 x 16 multi-zone system from DATEQ serves as the central matrix, distributing several sources across up to 16 zones or outputs. Wall controllers in the guest suites let the desired audio source and volume be set individually.

Ingo Schmerbauch, owner of the hotel, sums up the solution:
“Thanks to the new sound system we now have outstanding sound in our exclusive wellness suites and throughout the building. For our staff and our guests the system is intuitive and straightforward to use. The MONACOR sound technology convinces us in every respect. The solution worked out by the technical project management fits our requirements perfectly.”
